Vivienne Westwood opens her first café – in Shanghai!
The “Punk” fashion designer Vivienne Westwood expands her empire by opening the first Vivienne Westwood Café by her flagship fashion store in K11 Art Mall on Huaihai Road in Shanghai, the largest store in China stocking her Red Label, Gold Label, Man and Anglomania collections. Recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers in the world, the 69 year old British designer inspires again.
The Café is composed of two themed areas; one resembling the backstage of a fashion show, the other an 18th Century French tea room emphasizing the brand’s English DNA. Décor and tableware are all customized with Westwood’s Ord and her signature red and green tartan design, and so are the delicious cupcakes and what the barista serves up. The two areas are connected by a glass partition with a 13-hour “World’s End” clock that runs anti-clockwise, paying tribute to the “World’s End” store on 430 King’s Road in London.
This achievement adds to a long list of Westwood’s successes: already at the end of the seventies she was considered a symbol of the British avant-garde, and in 2004 a Vivienne Westwood retrospective exhibition was hosted at Victoria & Albert museum to celebrate her 34th year in fashion, the largest British exhibition ever hosted for a living British fashion designer. In 2006 her contribution towards British Fashion was officially recognized when she was appointed a Dame. We admire her and cannot wait to come back to the Vivienne Westwood Café for another Signature latte. And…That’s it!
