Films to look out for at Sundance Film Festival 2017

The Sundance festival is notably the most famous film festival in the world and the 2017 edition certainly did not disappoint.  From over 40 films aired,  these are the films you need to keep your eye on for the upcoming year.

Mudbound

“Moving, Refreshing and Relevant”   ★★★★

   After going through hell and back to beat the Nazi’s in WW11,  an African American soilder comes back to his home in Mississippi. He struggles to adjust to post war life and the inherent racial tensions in his rural town.  This film touches on very relevant and poignant issues especially in the light of today’s society.

 

The Big Sick

"Must see for all Rom-Com lovers"  ★★★★

Based on Kumail and Emily (Screen Writers) first year dating, this unusual love story is plagued by life threatening illness and a bad breakup. Who said love was easy? This dark tale is twisted with humour and will leave you laughing (and crying!) from start to finish. 

 

Wind River

An experienced veteran game tracker is asked to assist the FBI in a murder investigation. The film features breath taking views, intense shoot outs and shows the purest test of a man’s endurance. How far would you go to track down a killer?

 

Last Men in Aleppo

"Heart wrenching but must not be missed" ★★★★

5 years of war in Syria has taken its drastic toll. The White Helmets have stayed in Aleppo to help their people despite the city being under constant fire. A story of immense bravery and the scars that torment the Syrian people. This film may be hard to watch but it brings home the harsh reality of modern day warfare on civilians.

 

A ghost story

"Goes beyond all expectation...supernatural thriller"  ★★★★

Director: David Lowery

A young married couple plan to move house until a tragic accident kills the husband. As his wife grieves his ghost comes back to haunt her. Despite the lack of dialogue, the emotional connection to the supernatural plays on time and perception slowly unfolding the haunted tale.
