Into the water and back to the womb?

"It's a bit like going back to a fetal state, like in a cocoon" This is how John Beernaerts describes the feeling when dining at his new restaurant that just opened in Brussels. Guests can savour a high-end menu including champagne, foie gras and lobster while enjoying their time in an exclusive atmosphere.

So far, it sounds like any other nice eatery you might think. However, what is special about this restaurant is its location - "The Pearl", a capsule-like round sphere (that's where the "cocoon" comes in I guess) is located in the middle of Beernaerts' swimming pool, 5 meters below surface. Guests have to scuba dive before entering the 2 meter wide internal space that fits about 4 people and that - luckily - features a special oxygen machine to ensure guests do not have to eat with their diving gadgets on. The waiters are expert scuba divers and deliver the dishes in waterproof boxes from below the sphere. Also, Beernaerts did not forget to equip "The Pearl" with quite a few windows (I wonder what is there to see at the bottom of a swimming pool, though).

 

And... That's it!
