China Fights Toilet Paper Theft With Facial-Recognition Technology

China Fights Toilet Paper Theft With Facial-Recognition Technology

Have you ever been to the loo and realised that there’s no toilet roll? (eek!) In China, they are quite literally ‘wiping’ out the problem.

In the popular tourist spot in Tiantan Park, Beijing Is the first to run this trial.  Each person will be rationed to 60 cm of toilet roll after having their face scanned by the software. Don’t be fooled… the software doesn’t mess around and if you try and go back for a second serving…. You will be denied.

So why is this drastic measure being taken? China Radio International recently stated:

“Some people still lack paper use manners...Some

people take much more paper than needed and

sometimes even take a whole roll away with

them...Sometimes paper is used up in only twenty

minutes.”

However, not everyone is happy about this. People are voicing concerns about emergency situations and what to do if the software is broken?

Hopefully, the Chinese will get to the ‘bottom’ of the toilet paper thieves.

And…That’s it!
