ira koers and roelof mulder form freestanding cinemas for manifesta 10
Art, culture and engagement!
The 10th Manifesta, changing location every second year, is held at the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. Being the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, Manifesta Biennal aims to investigate and reflect on contemporary art and culture, public discussion, education and public programs, and operates as a platform for critical engagement.
At the State Hermitage Museum they set up four innovative freestanding cinema rooms, creating an intimate atmosphere yet visible and accessibly through window portals cut out of the back wall of each room. Exteriors are covered in clear vanish while the interior is saturated with a pure colored pigment, reflecting the tones and light of the moving video images.
The work “unlooped kino” is comprised of an overview of the most important video art works from the past four decades, supervised by curator Kasper König. The works are sourced by Rainald Schumacher and Nathalie Hoyos of Office For Art, and includes time-based media by Marina Abramovic, Oleg Kulik, Francis Alys and Tracey Emin.
Let's engage! And...That's it!
