Fashionability with Joyce Wang
Joyce Wang’s show titled ‘Fashionability’ did exactly what it promised: it bought together both sustainability and fashion. Joyce voiced her desires of wanting to work towards a zero-waste fashion line, furthering what she has already managed to achieve in terms of sustainability!
The Buyi Minority of Guizhou province laid the foundations for Joyce Wang’s latest collection. All items in the collection were hand-woven by Buyi female weavers and then dyed with natural indigo, which was integrated into the cotton to allow the natural creation of patterns throughout the pieces.
Uni-sized clothing may not be a new concept in fashion but through the usage of pockets and buttons on all the items it allowed perfect adjustment to the models’ varying silhouettes. Incorporating these features made the pieces both elegant and alternative. The simple stylishness of the indigo and white colour scheme allowed the focus to be the skilful designs and the techniques behind each individual piece. To appreciate and enjoy her exciting, artisanal clothing couldn’t be any easier, especially when it also means we are left with an awareness of the environment
And... That's it!
