These sandals are designed to last for good
While companies such as Nike are taking footwear to the next level introducing tech enabled shoes, it was a pleasant surprise to come across Startas + Co, a Croatian shoe company that use a sustainable handmade technique to make vegan shoes.
The company, established in early 1930s, uses only organic raw materials and produces all the shoes by hand. They recently started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for their upcoming Boromina shoes that are made of 100% biodegradable and recyclable materials. What piqued my interest in this campaign is not the shoes itself but the principle behind it. The company wishes to spread awareness that it to fight against unfair trade practices, inhumane conditions in sweat shops and that the art of handmade shoes is still very much alive. It is quite refreshing to see an initiative that tries to go up against big conglomerates for standing behind what they believe is right.
The product comes in several colors ranging from UK size 3 to 8. If they manage to reach their goal in time, the product is expected to ship out in June 2017.
